About Janine

Janine Wareham is a freelance New Zealand illustrator and artist. Her inspiration comes from human idiosyncrasies, foibles and fud ups and she gets a kick out of mushing these together with patterns, type and color. Janine has spent the last ten years working as an art director in the advertising industry. She is a talented and passionate illustrator with a love for visual communication. Her unique drawing style allows her the freedom to view and comment humorously on everyday life and its little imperfections. Her work defies easy classification and her art often involves close attention to the human form and expression. Her comedy shines through her work which makes it equally accessible for children's books, advertising agencies and corporate clients. Janine's observations are sharp and intuitive thus producing illustrations that are undeniably quirky, conceptual, fun and engaging.

Live Illustration

In September 2010, Streamtime convinced Janine to do something a little different and come on a trade show stand with us at Auckland's "Creative Tech - All Things Apple" event. Streamtime is a project management system for creatives - but let’s face it, that can be a little dull. So we thought ‘lets get rid of cheesy sales people trying to entice passers by with free mints’ and replace that with a living work of art. Janine setup a giant easel with a 3.5m wide canvas and over the two day event she created a giant "tribute to all things Streamtime". It was quirky and chaotic, but Janine was tuned into the same wavelength as we were and we all had a great time. Obviously we were the talk of the event and everyone was mesmerized by what was being created at our booth. We filmed a short video of the artwork being created along with a time-lapse - check it out below.

The Drum Cover

Janine did an additional illustration for us (seen at the top of this page), and we were thrilled that we were able to use it on the special cover edition of The Drum September 30th 2011 edition. The full work was a four page spread including front and back covers and inside front and inside back. The agency that produced the creative was Q Brand Agency in Christchurch New Zealand.
